Missing channels w/ PRO LNB's?
|
| |
Why am I missing channels w/ PRO LNB's?
1. Dish mis-alignment causing a lower signal strength than max avaiable at
your location. Re-align dish for max signal strength.
2. There is an INTERNAL electronic difference between how the LEGACY LNBs
and the PRO LNBs work.
LEGACY LNBs are designed to pickup only one satellite's signals at a time.
Under the "old" LEGACY LNB method, if one wanted to view 2 satellites,
you'd use 2 separate LEGACY LNB's and combine their signal with an
EXTERNAL SW-21 or the like so that 2 satellite's signals could be sent
down one cable to a receiver. THESE HEADS WORK WITH VIEWSAT and other FTA
boxes because of the ability to REMOVE the SW-21 from the cabling.
Later versions combined 2 LEGACY LNBs into a single unit (LEGACY Twins and
Quads) AND added the required SW-21 switch INTERNALLY inside the case so
that 2 satellite's signals could be sent down one cable to a receiver.
THESE HEAD DO NOT WORK WITH VIEWSAT and other FTA boxes reliably because
of the presence of the SW-21 which cannot be removed.
PRO LNBs (twin or quads) are actually 2 LNBs built into a single box.
Instead of using a SW-21 to switch the signal from 2 satellites, a DiSEqC
switch is used and 25,600 oscillator is installed INTERNALLY so that it
can "stack" one polarity signal on top of the other polarity signal in
order to send the both satellite polarities from one satellite down one
cable to a receiver.
Note: there are also DP single(or dual) LNBs used for 61.5 or 148 these
are for one satellite only and are usually used in conjunction with a DP34
switch in DN setups, these will work fine with FTAs following DP
guidelines.
These DIFFERENCEs are the reason those of us helping folks with their
ViewSats constantly ask what TYPE of LNB are you using. You need to know
your LNB type because the setup procedures are slightly different between
the two--LEGACY and PRO.
And, YOU NEED TO TELL US "LNB TYPE" (LEGACY OR PRO) WHEN ASKING FOR HELP!
PRO heads "internally" stack the "H" Horizontal TP signal and the "V"
Vertical TP signal in order to use only ONE CABLE to the STB/IRD. This is
done with an oscillator in the LNB.
Hence, without the "H" HORIZONTAL TP conversion to a "V" VERTICAL TP
frequency, PRO LNB's will NOT receive "H" TP frequencies and you may be
MISSING 1/2 the channels.
MATH
"H" TPs to "V" TP conversion.
FORMUALA
"new" 'V' TP Frequency = 25600 - "old 'H' TP frequency
EXAMPLE TP DATA
119 TP2 (Leg) = 12239, 20000, H, 5/6 - LEGACY info for TP 2 on 119 - AS A
HORIZONTAL TP
119 TP2 (PRO) = 13361, 20000, V, 5/6 - PRO info for TP2 on 119 - AS A
"CONVERTED" HORIZONTAL To A "VERTICAL" TP
To complicate matters, once you have an incomplete channel scan in your
ViewSat, the only practical way is to do a FACTORY DEFAULT to clear your
channels and re-setup your box.
Doing it "RIGHT" the first time will save you lots of time, effort and
aggrevation and get you to testing out your new "toy" at the soonest
possible moment.
-----------------------
And you can try this...
Viewsat Receiver's can make your satinfo file for you - Here is how!!!!
"Before a scan, go to edit satellite settings and delete all TPs
except for TP1 for each sat which is 12224 for 110, 91, and 82 and
12239 for 119. Make sue the settings for that single TP are correct
and then perform a regular scan. In the process, the receiver will
automatically locate all TPs whether they cover your geographic area
or not. I've done it this way every single time and my scans are
flawless no matter which PGM file I'm using."
Just wanted to add that when I scan, I turn the power off to all
other LNB's except the one I am scanning. Make sure you turn them
all back on once complete!
FOR 61.5 start with 12297 H 20000 5/6 for the 61.5
that is the first one for the 61.5
F3 is the delete key, hit the pause key in the scan section for button
options.
Quick Note: This will not work for everyone...Example 12224 on 119 is a
spot beam that I am unable to recieve. With that said all one would have
to do is start the scan on the next tp number.
the only problem i have had while doing this is when i scan the channels i
get a lot of echo**** channels and have to either delete or edit them if
anyone else has good success with this please post back as i am interseted
in knowing if it works well ,
another reason i thought it could have been my settup is that i had weak
signal when i was trying this option as i had snow on my dish and didnt
know it untill later in that day , i havent tried it since 1024 was
released as that was the file i was trying out the auto tp on and found
that it got the tp's but named the channels incorrect ,
so maybe the bins have inproved so this can work well , please post
results,
This technique works perfectly everytime. The problems reported here are
not related to this procedure. I have done this procedure over and over
again and it always comes up perfectly.
Delete all TP's except the following corresponding spotbeams then do a
channel scan within the same installation screen by pressing okay:
110 - Start scan at 12224 deleting all others
119 - Start scan at 12239 deleting all others
61.5 - Start scan at 12297 deleting all others
F3 is the delete button.

WHY SPOT BEAMS?
“Spot beams” take satellites to the next level. Spot beams enable EchoStar to deliver more local
channels to specific, precisely defined areas, improving its ability to compete with cable broadcasters.
Echo I through Echo VI satellites use beams that cover the entire nation. To provide local broadcast
coverage, channels intended for only one local market are scrambled so customers elsewhere cannot
view them. The new “spot beam” satellites are designed to aim spot beams at selected metropolitan
markets, allowing the same radio frequencies to be reused in different cities, thus increasing the
channel capacity. For example, by focusing over a very small area, like the New York City
metropolitan area, the frequency can be reused in several other places like Miami, San Francisco and
Chicago (these cities are used as examples, and will not actually share the same spot beam
frequency). EchoStar VII and EchoStar VIII are both spot beam satellites. Why do these benefit our
customers? With these two highly powerful spot beam satellites, we can direct about 50 different spot
beam “projections” to the continental U.S. and deliver a lot more local programming to those specific
areas. Each spot beam has an approximate diameter of 300 miles, making them powerful satellites!
FREQUENCY TYPES:
• Frequencies Explained: When programming from our content providers is sent (“transmitted”) to
the satellites from one of the uplink centers (Cheyenne, WY or Gilbert, AZ), the “transmission”
uses a unique radio frequency (RF) channel. It is similar to traffic lanes on a highway. Each RF
channel represents a traffic lane that keeps the signals (vehicles) from interfering with one another
en route to the satellite (this is also called “uplinking”). Unique frequencies are also used to
“downlink” programming from the satellite to the customer’s homes.
• The satellite’s “transponders” receive signals from earth on one frequency and amplify and
transmit them back to earth on a different frequency.
• On a CONUS (“CONtinental United States”) satellite, each frequency downlinks programming to
the whole United States.
• On a spot beam satellite, frequencies are re-used and downlinked to up to five different spot beam
locations (“projections”).

How to for Fortec |

273t and 104t bin instructions. This is NTSC not PAL. The 273t bin is more widely used and help would be more plenty full even though they are the same except for the wording in the setup menu. Both have auto-roll & bev.
KEY CHANGING
These two bin's have auto-roll with two sets of DN keys. When the keys change on some channels you will not get them normally. With these bin's the second set of keys will auto-roll and all the channels will still work.
PLEASE DO NOT PM me, POST YOUR QUESTION IN A NEW THREAD.
I am not taking credit for these bin's just the instructions.
PLUGGING IN CABLE.
Make sure you plug in the cable from the dish to the receiver at the IF 13/18v INPUT. Not the ANT IN. Change the FTA to ALL just before you scan for channels. Also the wires coming from the dish to the switch should be put on the switch at the same number as you have set in your receiver. Like 119 wire goes on number 1 on the diseqc switch and the receiver has #1 for 119 in the program.
How to flash your Fortec Ultra.
You can flash (load) your Ultra with this bin on top of the bin (file) you already have. It will replace it.
If you read and do all of this you will have less questions at the end.
Use a STRAIGHT THROUGH CABLE RS232C hooked up to your receiver from the computer. Take the cable off going to the LNB to be safe.
If you have the year model Dec 2004 or newer you can clone it or you MAY need to use a USB to Serial cable 26-183 at Radio Shack. Get detailed instructions about the cable here http://www.beaglesoft.com/232usb.htm
Download the recommended X-85CS_060318_273t_GC_DN_BEV_RTN_TVE_4sec_API(N).ZIP
You can get it here http://forums.******.tk/showthread.php?t=138955
Or download Chancysand Ultra_Pan_104t_060402_GC_DN_BEV_RTN_TVE_4sec_api(N ).bin
You can get it here. http://forums.******.tk/showthread.php?t=144363
Download a loader to your computer or use BLACKLIST UP LOADER.ZIP It don't ask as many questions.
You can get it here http://forums.******.tk/showthread.php?t=135458
UNZIP both files. You can use WinZip or Winace.
You can get them here http://www.winzip.com/ http://www.winace.com/
Click on BLACKLIST UP LOADER.EXE to start it. Set the COM PORT and put a dot in BIN.
Click on BROWS then put in the bin you want (note it is a bin & NOT zip)
Turn receiver on from the back, when FIRST bar starts then click FIX on our computer.
After you get compleat on the computer the ON will display, then it will displays a channel number if you have channels in your receiver. Your receiver is flashed. Check the Satellite settings in your receiver. Sometimes after a flash they change.
A MENU SETUP Below FOR 110 & 119 & Nimiq 1,3 91.0W SATELLITES FOR LIFETIME ULTRA WITH TWO SEPARATE LNB's & ONE DiSEqC OR A 22Khz SWITCH. Or A DISH PRO LNB.
Alignment on your dish is very critical and could be frustrating. You need a high QUALITY signal before you start to scan, that is the green bar. above 90 is good above 95 is better. Hook the dish cable on your receiver at the IF connector NOT the ANT. If you have a Dish Pro LNB or do not have a 22Khz switch then you can keep the 22Khz switch OFF in the settings.
YOU MAY NEED TO FIX YOUR SATELLITE SETTINGS AFTER A FLASH & SET THE DEFAULT KEY.
The TP's below are close and will give you the channels that are there.
MENU then DISH SETUP then OK then ANTENNA SETUP then OK.
----------------ECHO 7 = 119-----------ECHO 6,8 = 110--Nimiq2 = Nimiq 1,3 91.0W or Bev

Satellite Scan ------ ALL---------------------------ALL-----------------------ALL
You will get more channels if you do a scan. You can use Channel Master to sort, get channel numbers, rename, ect. Then save them under Fortec Lifetime Ultra. Channel Master is one if the best. For instructions, in CM click on HELP then ONLINE SUPPORT. You can get it here.
http://www.sharpc.com/CM/update.htm
You can only get one Satellite for each one LNB you have. One LNB one Satellite. Two LNB's two Satellites, and so on.
DISH PRO & CHANNEL MASTER & CHANNEL LIST.
A Dish Pro LNB has one or two eyes in one casing with a black label saying Dish Pro. If you use a channel list you need one for your Dish Pro. Or you can convert the channel list to Dish Pro with Channel Master. If you scan for your channels with your DP then you are OK.
CHANNEL ORDER & DUMMY SATELLITE
If your channels are in a sid number order and not in the order you numbered them to be, do this. Put the word DUMMY as the first Satellite in the Satellite list with Channel Master. In CM right click on the word SATELLITE then click on ADD SATELLITE. Put DUMMY for the name then click OK. Now you need to move the word DUMMY from the bottom of the Satellite list to the top so it's the first one. Also you should change the word ECHO to DISH on each Satellite you are getting. Right click on the Satellite you want to change then click on PROPERTIES then change ECHO to DISH. You can save it in CM under Fortec Lifetime Ultra.
HOW TO SET DEFAULT KEY FOR THE 273t bin.
MENU, PARENTAL CONTROL, OK, down to SECOND PIN put in 0000 or 1010 or 1668 then OK then down to SET DEFAULT KEY then OK.
HOW TO SET DEFAULT KEY FOR THE 104t bin
Same as above just change Parental Control to CAS CONTROL MENU and Second Pin to CAS PIN.
HOW TO DO A FACTORY SETTING FOR THE 273t bin
MENU, down to FACTORY SETTING then OK. When you do this you will clean out your channels.
HOW TO DO A FACTORY SETTING FOR THE 104t bin
MENU then down to DEFAULT SETTING. When you do this you will clean out your channels.
SWITCH
A SW21 switch will not work with FTA. That is a DN switch. You will need a SW22 to work with FTA. You can also use a DiSEqC switch. This switch is a good one but some receivers have trouble with it switching. A trouble free switch is a 22kHz switch. It will switch every time and will not give you any trouble. But only has two connectors for two LNB's. So if you use more then two LNB's I would go for the SW22 switch.
CHANGE PIN NUMBER
The pin numbers are 0000, 1010 or 1668. If you changed your pin number and lost it or just can't get in with the pin number you have, 1668 will over ride what ever pin you changed it to in most Ultra receivers. If that don't work you will need to re-flash your receiver to get it back originally. Should save your channel list first.
CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR AUTO-ROLL WILL AUTO-ROLL WITH THE 273t bin.
For some reason you may want to see if your auto-roll will auto-roll.
MENU
Down to PARENTAL CONTROL then OK
At bottom in SECOND PIN put in 0000 or 1668 or 1010
Then down to NAGRAVISION 2 then OK
Side arrow to 01 01 then down to KEY DATA and change one or more of the numbers.
Then click to store then exit all the way out.
The % should show and may go well above 100 before you get a picture.
CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR AUTO-ROLL WILL AUTO ROLL WITH THE 104t bin
MENU, CAS CONTROL MENU, OK, Down to CAS PIN then put in 0000 or 1010, or 1668. Then down to NAGRAVISION 2, OK, Then in Dish Network down to KEY DATA then change something in there.
HOW TO MANUALLY CHANGE DN KEYS IN THE 273t bin. For what ever reason.
MENU
PARENTAL CONTROL then OK
Put 0000 in SECOND PIN
Down to NAGRAVISION 1 then OK
In PROVIDER ID, 01 01 & KEY NUMBER 00, use down arrow in KEY DATA then change keys for DN.
To put the rest of DN keys in go back to KEY NUMBER and change it to 01
When done make sure you click OK to STORE
HOW TO MANUALLY CHANGE BEV's KEYS for the 273t or 104t bin. For what ever reason.
Same as above but in PROVIDER ID change to 09 01
When done make sure you click OK to STORE
HOW TO MANUALLY CHANGE THE KEYS FOR THE 104t bin
Would be the same as CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR AUTO ROLL WILL AUTO ROLL for the 104t bin above. |
